University Cup promises fans a unique experience

Since it was announced that the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team would be hosting the 2009 and 2010 editions of the CIS Cavendish University Cup Championship, local sports fans have been preparing for one of the biggest sporting events in the history of Thunder Bay. On Thursday, January 15th, Lakehead University held a press conference outlining the details of the event.

‘G-Man’ selected to World Juniors

Lakehead Thunderwolves Nordic skier Ghislain De Laplante has been selected to Team Canada for the World Junior Nordic Championships to be held in Mals, France from February 22-29. The sophomore student-athlete from Iroquois Falls, Ontario was an OUA All-Star last season.

Jesse Pyatt retires

Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey and head coach Don McKee regretfully announce that Lakehead fifth-year senior forward Jesse Pyatt will not play for the Wolves. Pyatt, a former OUA scoring champion who transferred to the Wolves this season to finish his CIS career, was jumped after work prior to the start of the season, forcing him to miss all of the team’s games leading up to his decision to hang up the skates.

Van Every, Brown go for gold in Bemidji

Last weekend the Thunderwolves’ track & field team competed at the annual Bemidji State Super 8 Open in Bemidji, Minnesota. Although this was the first year Lakehead had competed at this meet, the small traveling squad of ten athletes brought home two gold and three silver medals against strong Midwest NCAA DII & III talent.

Nesbitt returns to Wolves roster

Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball head coach Jon Kreiner is very happy to announce the return of fifth-year senior forward Amanda Nesbitt for the second half of the OUA varsity schedule. Nesbitt played her first game for the Wolves this weekend against the Brock Badgers at home.
